MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Jackie Albrecht, a
three-sport standout at Mansfield Christian
School, has signed letters of intent to play
both volleyball and basketball at Mount
Vernon Nazarene University.

Albrecht, a 5-foot-10 native of
Lexington, Ohio, was a four-year
letterwinner on both the volleyball and
basketball teams at Mansfield Christian. She
was an All-Ohio Honorable Mention selection
as a junior in volleyball before suffering a
season-ending knee injury in the first
volleyball match of her senior year. Despite
the injury, she was still selected by the
Mansfield News Journal as the top volleyball
player in the area.
"We feel that we are adding a great
person in Jackie,” said MVNU volleyball
coach Paul Swanson, who became the NAIA’s
all-time wins leader (810) during the 2006
season and has a 795-282 record in 23 years
with the Lady Cougars. "She is a strong
player who comes from strong high school and
club programs. She will help our team on the
court, but we are even more excited about
her as a person. Her strong Christian
character, interesting personality, and
positive attitude will help our team become
even more of a team.”
In basketball, Albrecht was also an
All-Ohio Honorable Mention selection as a
junior as she helped lead Mansfield
Christian to a district runner-up finish by
averaging 15.4 points and 8.7 rebounds while
shooting 49.1 percent from the field. She
returned from her knee injury to play in the
final five games of her senior season and
was named to the District 6 Honorable
Mention list.
"Jackie is a very dedicated and
disciplined player who has been blessed with
great skills and tremendous athletic
ability,” said MVNU women’s basketball coach
Steve Gregory. "Not only is she a tremendous
player and athlete, more importantly she is
a great kid.”
"Jackie will be a two-sport athlete here
at MVNU,” Gregory added. "There are not many
people who could pull that off. However, she
is one of the few that I think will excel in
both sports. She is doing well academically
and adds value to the teams that she plays
on right now at the high school level. Not
only will she be a great addition to our
team, but she will add to our campus
community as well.”
In addition to playing volleyball and
basketball, Albrecht was a four-year
letterwinner on the Mansfield Christian
softball team. She also played on the
Mid-Ohio Junior Olympics club volleyball
team and she has been very active in her
local church including taking a missions
trip to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in
South Dakota. She also carries a 4.00
grade point average in the classroom.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Albrecht of her college choice.
"It is close to home and it is a Christian
college. When I am there, it feels like I’m
with family. I also really like the
atmosphere there, and I am looking forward
to playing for both Coach Swanson and Coach
Gregory.”
The MVNU volleyball team posted a 31-18
overall record in 2006 and advanced to the
semifinals of the NAIA Region IX Tournament.
The Lady Cougars have won more than 30
matches in 14 straight seasons. The MVNU
women’s basketball team went 11-17 during
the 2006-2007 season.
