Van Pelt, a junior forward from Maryville, Tennessee, had a hand in all four of the Cougars’ goals as MVNU opened the week with a pair of double overtime draws. In a 3-3 tie at Manhattan Christian (Kan.) College, the former William Blount High School star scored one goal and registered two assists. Then, Van Pelt closed the week out by scoring the Cougars’ only goal on a penalty kick in a 1-1 tie at MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University, the defending NCCAA national champions.

On the season, Van Pelt leads MVNU with two goals and two assists. He was the team leader in both categories during the 2004 season with 14 goals and seven assists.

The Cougars (0-0-2) will return to action on Friday when the team will host Northland Baptist Bible (Wis.) College, the defending NCCAA Division II national champion, in the first round of the annual First-Knox Cougar Invitational at 4:00 p.m. The other first round match features Grace (Ind.) College versus Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 2:00 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the championship match, which will be preceded by the consolation match at 1:00 p.m. Van Pelt was the Most Valuable Offensive Player of last year’s event when MVNU finished as the tournament’s runner-up.
