NewsMVNU's Dunster Named NCCAA Volleyball Player of the Weekwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jenny Dunster, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, has been selected
as the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of
the Week for her performance in matches played from August 22-28.
Dunster, a 5-foot-10 senior middle hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, helped lead the Lady Cougars to an 8-0 record for the week that included capturing a share of first place at the 15-team University of Michigan-Dearborn Invitational where Dunster was named to the All-Tournament Team. For the week, the former Central Christian High School standout averaged 3.25 kills, 1.40 blocks, and 2.75 digs per game while posting a .421 attack percentage. Dunster pounded 16 kills in a win over Concordia (Mich.) University, and she closed out the week with 10 kills and 19 digs against Indiana Wesleyan University, which received votes in the NAIA preseason poll. Dunster also reached a career milestone during the week as she became the 19th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000-dig mark with three digs against Rochester (Mich.) College on August 27. In addition, she needs just four more kills to reach the 1,000-kill mark for her career, which would make her only the third player in school history with 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs, and 500 blocks. MVNU (9-0), which received votes in the NAIA preseason poll, will return to action on Friday when the team travels to the Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College Invitational. The Lady Cougars will face the University of Rio Grande at 6:00 p.m. and Houghton (N.Y.) College at 8:00 p.m. The tournament will conclude with two more matches on Saturday.
