MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Shena Beheler, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, has been selected
as the American Mideast Conference, NAIA Region IX, and National
Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for her
performance in matches played during the week of August
29-September 4.
Beheler, a 5-foot-10 sophomore middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, averaged 4.44 kills, 1.69 blocks, and 2.56 digs per game as the Lady Cougars went 5-0 during the week. The former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School also led MVNU to the Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College Invitational title as she was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. During the week, Beheler reached double figures in kills in all five of the team’s matches. She had 13 kills and 14 digs in a sweep at Notre Dame College to start the week. Then, she had 15 and 16 kills respectively in pool play wins over the University of Rio Grande and Houghton (N.Y.) College. After pounding 13 kills against host Roberts Wesleyan, Beheler closed out the week with 14 kills in a sweep of Walsh University, who received votes in the NAIA poll, in the championship match. On the season, Beheler leads the Lady Cougars with 138 kills and 55 blocks. She also has compiled 12 assists, 11 aces, and 81 digs. MVNU, which received votes in this week’s NAIA poll, is currently 13-0 overall. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday at the College of Wooster Invitational. MVNU will face St. Mary’s (Ind.) College at 6:00 p.m. and Bluffton College at 8:00 p.m. in pool play action.
