MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Amanda Stevens, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, was recently
selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX
Player of the Week for her performance during the week of October
10-16.
Stevens, a senior outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-0 record for the week. The former star at Centerburg High School began the week with 14 kills and 13 digs in a conference victory at Urbana University, who received votes in the NAIA poll. She added 19 kills and 11 digs in a win at Malone College, and she closed out the week with 10 kills and 14 digs in a sweep of Geneva (Pa.) College. The victories over Malone and Geneva gave MVNU the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region title and the team’s 15th straight trip to the NCCAA National Tournament. For the season, Stevens has compiled 419 kills, 45 blocks, 43 aces, and a team-leading 518 digs. She is averaging 3.25 kills and 4.02 digs per game, and she has registered a 94.9 serve reception percentage. She has moved into fourth place in school history with 1,787 career kills and second place with 2,307 career digs. MVNU is currently 31-9 overall and 7-5 in the AMC South Division. The Lady Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, will return to action on Tuesday when the team will host Ohio Dominican University in a conference match at 7:00 p.m.
