written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team was recently recognized when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its Top Ten All-Academic Teams for the 2004-2005 school year.

The Lady Cougars, who finished the year with a 17-18 overall record on the diamond, posted an average grade point average of 3.387 among the 17 players on the team as MVNU ranked eighth among NAIA schools.

Iowa Wesleyan College led all NAIA schools with a 3.650 grade point average, while American Mideast Conference opponent Tiffin University just edged the Lady Cougars out for seventh place with a 3.388 grade point average.

"This is a great honor for our program and our school,” said MVNU head coach Jeana Howald. "This is a credit to our players and the diligent efforts that they make in the classroom despite missing numerous classes due to playing a spring sport that requires mainly afternoon games.”
