Three Lady Cougars Earn NCCAA All-American Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -  Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced.

Jenny Dunster, a senior middle hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, highlighted the list for the Lady Cougars as she was named to the NCCAA All-American First Team. The former Central Christian High School standout has compiled 530 kills, 196 blocks, 42 aces, and 597 digs this season. Dunster, who was an NCCAA All-American Second Team selection a year ago, has also set a new school record with 926 serve attempts this year.

Amanda Stevens, a senior outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, joined Dunster on the NCCAA All-American First Team as she earned the honor for the second straight year. The former Centerburg High School product leads MVNU with 683 digs to go with 600 kills, 64 blocks, and 60 aces. She becomes only the sixth player in school history to be a two-time NCCAA All-American First Team selection.

Shena Beheler, a sophomore middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American Second Team. The former Fredericktown High School star leads the Lady Cougars with 676 kills and 260 blocks this season. Beheler has also compiled 42 aces and 421 digs, and she has registered a team-high 800 serve reception attempts.

MVNU is currently 40-11 overall as the team reached the 40-win mark for the seventh time in school history and the first time since 1999. The Lady Cougars will take part in the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Saint Vincent (Pa.) College on Friday. The winner of this six-team tournament receives an automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament in San Diego, California.
