MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Josh Van Pelt, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University men’s soccer team, was recently selected as the
American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week
for his performance in matches played during the week of October
24-30.Van Pelt, a junior forward from Maryville, Tennessee, led the Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as he registered four goals and two assists. In a 5-1 victory over Saint Vincent (Pa.) College, the former William Blount High School star recorded his second career hat trick with three goals. Then, he added one goal and two assists in a 5-1 win at Urbana University to close out the regular season. On the year, Van Pelt leads MVNU with 14 goals and 14 assists. He ranks in the top five in the AMC in goals scored and points and he leads the AMC in assists. The Cougars will return to action on Saturday at noon when MVNU will host Nyack (N.Y.) College in the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Tournament semifinals. The winner of that match will advance to the championship match at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) University.
