Five Cougars Receive NCCAA East Region Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -  Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region awards were announced.
 
Josh Van Pelt Jeffery Hinds Shawn Morrison

Josh Van Pelt, a junior forward from Maryville, Tennessee, highlighted the honorees for the Cougars as he was selected as the NCCAA East Region Player of the Year. The former William Blount High School star led MVNU with 14 goals and 15 assists in 2005 as he was among the NCCAA national leaders in both categories and in total points (43).

Jeffery Hinds, a senior midfielder from Kingston, Jamaica, joined Van Pelt on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Kingston College High School product was second on the team with 10 goals and 10 assists as he wrapped up his stellar four-year career with 34 goals and 26 assists.

Shawn Morrison, a senior defender from Olathe, Kansas, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Olathe South High School standout started all 19 matches and recorded one assist while helping to post seven shutouts. Morrison played in all 80 of the team’s matches during his career with 78 starts.
 

Daniel Seiffert Jordan Knight

Daniel Seiffert, a junior midfielder from Lewis Center, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention pick. The former Worthington Christian High School graduate registered two goals and two assists in 2005.

Jordan Knight, a junior goalkeeper from Kentwood, Michigan, was also an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention selection. The former star at East Kentwood High School posted four shutouts and a 1.36 goals against average for the season.

MVNU finished the year with an 11-5-3 overall record. The Cougars allowed just 23 goals in 19 matches for the year.
