MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Ben Falkenberg, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University men’s basketball team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference Player of the Week for his performance
in games during the week of November 7-13.Falkenberg, a freshman guard from Wadsworth, Ohio, led the Cougars to a 3-0 record for the week as he averaged 19.3 points per game off the bench. The former All-Ohioan at Wadsworth High School shot 66 percent from the field (21-for-32), 58 percent from three-point range (11-for-19), and 83 percent from the free throw line (5-for-6). He also averaged 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals while playing just 21 minutes per game. In a 101-76 victory over Ohio State University-Newark, Falkenberg scored 22 points and nailed four treys. He followed that performance with a career-high 24 points, four rebounds, four assists, and five three-pointers in a 104-88 win over Houghton (N.Y.) College. He closed out the week with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists in an 82-71 victory over Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College. On the season, Falkenberg is averaging 17.2 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds as he has come off the bench in all five games. He is shooting 55.4 percent from the field (31-for-56), 53.3 percent from three-point range (16-for-30), and 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-for-9). MVNU, which received votes in the NAIA Division II preseason poll, is currently 4-1 overall. The Cougars will return to action on Thursday when the team will host NCAA Division II Ashland University in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
