Two Lady Cougars Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Status

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -  Laura Kot and Stephanie Johnson, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, were recently honored for their achievements on the softball diamond and in the classroom when the 2006 ESPN The Magazine© Academic All-District IV College Division Softball Teams were selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Kot, a junior outfielder from Tallmadge, Ohio, was named to the Academic All-District First Team as one of three outfielders selected after earning a spot on the Academic All-District Second Team as a sophomore. This season, the former Tallmadge High School standout batted .348 with 46 hits, five doubles, one triple, 10 RBI, nine stolen bases, and a team-high 28 runs scored. A mathematics major, Kot has posted a perfect 4.00 grade point average in the classroom.

Johnson, a senior shortstop from Tallmadge, Ohio, was named to the Academic All-District Second Team after being a member of the Academic All-District First Team as a junior. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy star led the Lady Cougars in nearly every offensive category this year as she batted .388 with 50 hits, 19 doubles, eight triples, three home runs, 21 runs scored, 41 RBI, and seven stolen bases. A health/physical education and exercise studies double major, she has compiled a 3.81 grade point average.

The Academic All-District IV College Division Teams consist of players from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Eligible student-athletes are nominated by their school’s sports information director and must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year.
