MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Stephanie Johnson, a member of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, was
recently selected to the National Christian College Athletic
Association All-American First Team when the awards were announced
at the NCCAA National Tournament.Johnson, a senior shortstop from Tallmadge, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American First Team for the second straight year after being selected as the 2006 NCCAA East Region Player of the Year. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy star led the Lady Cougars with a .388 batting average, 50 hits, 19 doubles, eight triples, three home runs, and 41 RBI. Johnson becomes only the third MVNU softball player to be named to the NCCAA All-American First Team twice as she joins former Lady Cougar standouts Theresa Sheets (1995 and 1996) and Amanda Triplett (2000, 2001, and 2002). For her career, Johnson ranks first in MVNU history in doubles (57) and at bats (550), second in games played (163), batting average (.400), hits (220), triples (27), RBI (141), and assists (403), third in home runs (10), and fourth in runs scored (112) and stolen bases (34). She started at shortstop in every game that the Lady Cougars played over the past four years. |
