MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Katie Keller, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s basketball team, was selected to the
National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Second
Team when the teams were announced on Saturday at the NCCAA National
Tournament.Keller, a 5-foot-6 junior from Prospect, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars in scoring during the 2005-2006 season as she averaged 17.5 points and set a new single-season school record with 507 points. The former Elgin High School star also shot 44.3 percent from three-point range (81-for-183) to move just one three-pointer shy of the MVNU career mark of 184 three-pointers made. Keller also compiled 75 assists and 75 steals and shot 82.1 percent from the free throw line (96-for-117). For her career, Keller now ranks second in school history in career three-pointers made (183), fifth in career points (1,243), and ninth in career free throws made (226). She becomes the second-highest scoring junior in school history as she stands just eight points behind former Lady Cougar standout Tara Seiter, who had 1,251 points through three years on her way to becoming the all-time leading scorer with 1,718 points. MVNU finished the season with a 15-14 overall record and set a new school record by averaging 79.8 points per game. The Lady Cougars were also the NCCAA East Region runner-up and went 7-11 in the highly competitive American Mideast Conference South Division. |
