Hess, a 6-foot-6 junior post from Ashland, Ohio, averaged 14.8 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds during the season while also leading the team by shooting 54.7 percent on his field goal attempts (199-for-364). The former Ashland High School standout also recorded 71 assists, 12 blocked shots, and 20 steals.

For his career, Hess has moved into fifteenth place on the school’s career scoring list with 1,515 career points. He also ranks fifth in career rebounds (802) and is tied for sixth place in career free throws made (271).

MVNU finished the 2005-2006 season with a 27-9 record to match the school record for most wins in a season. The Cougars, who were ranked 15th in the final NAIA Division II poll, won two games at the NAIA Division II National Tournament to advance to the quarterfinals for only the second time in school history. The team also topped the 20-win mark for the fifth consecutive year and the ninth time in the past 10 seasons.
