NewsLady Cougars Sign Whiteoak Basketball Standoutwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team has signed another important recruit for the
2006-2007 season with the addition of Brooke Jolly, who has decided
to further her education at MVNU and continue her basketball career
with the Lady Cougars.Jolly, a 5-foot-7 guard/forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, averaged 9.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game as a senior at Whiteoak High School. The three-year captain and four-year varsity letterwinner was named to the All-Ohio Honorable Mention list as a senior. "I am very pleased that Brooke has chosen MVNU to continue her education and basketball career,” said MVNU head coach Steve Gregory. "She had a solid senior season which culminated in her selection to the Honorable Mention All-State team, which is a big honor.” "I expect Brooke to come in and compete in the guard position primarily,” Gregory added. "She is a versatile athlete who played practically every position during her high school career. That experience will only help her as she prepares to make the leap to college basketball. She is a very hard worker and is very anxious to get started. I am excited about her youthful enthusiasm. I think she will not only be a great fit for our team, but a great representative of our university.” In addition to playing basketball, Jolly has been active in Future Farmers of America and Junior Fair Board. She is a member of National Honor Society and has served as a class officer. She has been active in Bible quizzing and also was a member of the varsity track team at Whiteoak. "There are several reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Jolly of her college choice. "I have always wanted to attend a Christian school as well as play basketball. At MVNU, I can do both.” MVNU, an NAIA Division II school, finished the 2005-2006 season with a 15-14 overall record. The Lady Cougars, who won the National Christian College Athletic Association national title in 2001, compete in the American Mideast Conference South Division. |
