Former River View Soccer Standout to Play at MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team has added a key recruit to its roster for the 2006 season with the addition of Katelyn Pessia.

Pessia, a midfielder from Coshocton, Ohio, has decided to further her education and continue her soccer career at MVNU. As a senior at River View High School, she scored seven goals and registered 12 assists in 20 matches. She also set a school record with three assists in a match and 21 assists for her career. The three-year letter winner was an Eastern Ohio All-District Honorable Mention selection and a two-time All-Tribuneland First Team pick.

"I am very happy to have Katelyn join us this fall,” said MVNU head coach Jonathan Meade. "She committed to us knowing that she will be playing some new positions as a reserve, but she saw the great opportunity to play collegiately at MVNU and is taking advantage of that. This says a lot about Katelyn’s attitude and character towards MVNU and the game of soccer.”

"Katelyn will give us greater depth in goal and at midfield this season,” Meade added. "I think it is a great fit because she already knew that attending MVNU was the best choice for her. I am just glad that playing soccer worked out for her. She is definitely going to help the Lady Cougars be a better team this year.”

MVNU finished the 2005 season with a 12-6-1 overall record that included a runner-up finish in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Lady Cougars have posted a 80-39-3 record in their six seasons as a varsity sport with two AMC South Division titles and one National Christian College Athletic Association national championship.
