All-State Softball Player from Urbana Signs with MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team has added another important recruit to the team’s roster for the 2007 season with the addition of Tasha Konkle.

Konkle, a shortstop/catcher from Urbana, Ohio, was a two-time Ohio Heritage Conference First Team and All-Ohio First Team selection as a junior and senior at West Liberty-Salem High School. As a senior, she batted .493 with a team-high 14 doubles, 14 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and a team-best 40 runs scored in just 25 games. She became the first female athlete at West Liberty-Salem to be named All-Ohio twice.

"Tasha will play infield for us and will most likely play shortstop,” said MVNU head coach Jeana Howald. "She is quick, strong fundamentally, and a hard worker. She had an excellent high school career, and we feel that she will continue with that success at MVNU. We are privileged to have Tasha as part of our softball program and our campus community.”

In addition to playing softball at West Liberty-Salem, Konkle also played for the Diamond Attack and the Buckeye Sting during the summer and participated in the USSSA and NSA World Series respectively with each of them. She was a Homecoming attendant as a junior and she was also a member of National Honor Society. She also participated in the Leadership Academy.

"There are many reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Konkle of her college choice. "I felt that MVNU would give me the opportunity to receive a great education while also being able to participate on an established softball team. The Christian environment will give me the chance to grow spiritually. Also, the campus is not too far away from home, so it will not be hard for my family to come watch me play.”

MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Lady Cougars posted a 16-23 overall record in 2006, and the program has an all-time mark of 503-336-2 in the 22 years of the program’s history.
