Two Cougars Earn NCCAA All-American Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -  Jeffery Hinds and Josh Van Pelt, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team, were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced.

Hinds, a senior midfielder from Kingston, Jamaica, was named to the NCCAA All-American First Team after compiling 10 goals and 10 assists for the Cougars this season. The former Kingston College High School standout, who was an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman, finished his career with 34 goals and 26 assists, which ranks fifth and sixth respectively on MVNU’s career lists for those categories.

Van Pelt, a junior forward from Maryville, Tennessee, joined Hinds on the NCCAA All-American First Team after leading the Cougars with 14 goals and 15 assists. The former William Blount High School star, who was also named the 2005 NCCAA East Region Player of the Year, now has 32 career goals and 24 career assists, which ranks sixth and eighth respectively on MVNU’s career lists for those categories.

The Cougars finished the 2005 season with an 11-5-3 overall record and a 4-3-1 American Mideast Conference South Division mark.
