Five Cougars Receive AMC South Division Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -  Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team were recently honored when the American Mideast Conference South Division awards were announced.
 
Josh Van Pelt Jeffery Hinds Jordan Knight

Highlighting the list for the Cougars was junior forward Josh Van Pelt from Maryville, Tennessee, who was selected to the AMC South Division First Team. The former standout at William Blount High School led MVNU with 14 goals and 15 assists to finish among the AMC leaders in both categories.

Jeffery Hinds, a senior midfielder from Kingston, Jamaica, was named to the AMC South Division Second Team for the second time in his career. The former Kingston College High School standout was second on the team with 10 goals and 10 assists this year.

Jordan Knight, a junior goalkeeper from Kentwood, Michigan, was an AMC South Division Honorable Mention pick for the second straight year. The former star at East Kentwood High School posted a 1.36 goals against average with four shutouts.
 

Mike Pertz Adam Worrall

Mike Pertz, a sophomore defender from Granger Township, Ohio, was also an AMC South Division Honorable Mention selection. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy standout played in all 19 matches this season and helped the defense post seven shutouts.

Adam Worrall, a freshman midfielder from Blacklick, Ohio, was the final Cougar to receive AMC South Division Honorable Mention. The former Gahanna Lincoln High School star finished his first college season with eight goals and four assists.

MVNU posted an 11-5-3 overall record in 2005 with a 4-3-1 AMC South Division mark. The Cougars were also honored by the AMC South Division coaches by being selected as the Fair Play Award recipient as a result of having the fewest cautions and ejections during the season.
