MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Katie Keller, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s basketball team, has been selected as
the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the
Week for her performance during the week of November 28-December 4.Keller, a 5-foot-6 junior guard from Prospect, Ohio, averaged 22.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals during the Lady Cougars’ 2-1 week. The former Elgin High School star also shot 60.5 percent from the field (23-for-38), 61.9 percent from three-point range (13-for-21), and 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-for-9). Keller began the week with a team-high 26 points and four assists in a 79-70 victory at Urbana University as she went 7-for-8 from three-point range. In a 109-106 double overtime loss to Capital University, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, she tossed in a season-high 31 points with three assists and four steals as she went 10-for-15 from the field with four treys. She closed out the week with 10 points, three steals, and two assists in a 97-82 win over Kentucky Christian University, the three-time defending NCCAA Division II national champion. On the season, Keller is averaging 16.8 points and 2.2 rebounds through the team’s first 10 games. She currently ranks second in NAIA Division II by shooting a scorching 56.9 percent from three-point range (33-for-58), and she is third among all NAIA Division II players by making 3.3 treys per game. She also ranks 18th in NAIA Division II by averaging 3.4 steals, and she is shooting 84.0 percent at the free throw line (21-for-25). MVNU is currently 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Lady Cougars, who rank second in NAIA Division II with an 89.7 points per game scoring average, will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to the University of Rio Grande for an AMC South Division game that will tip off at 6:00 p.m.
