MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mike Laughlin, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, has been selected as the American
Mideast Conference and the NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the Week for
his performance during the week of April 10-16.Laughlin, a junior right-hander from Mogadore, Ohio, earned a victory in his only start of the week in a 7-3 win at Cedarville University on April 13. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy standout worked five hitless innings with 11 strikeouts and two walks before turning the game over to the bullpen leading 5-0. It also extended his no-hit streak to 10 straight innings against the Yellow Jackets as he tossed a five-inning no-hitter at Cedarville last year on April 16. On the season, Laughlin has posted a 2-2 record on the mound with a 6.26 ERA. In 23 innings of work, he has struck out 40 batters and opponents are hitting just .217 against him. MVNU is currently 17-16 overall and 8-8 in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Cougars will return to action on Friday and Saturday when the team will host a pair of important conference doubleheaders against Shawnee State University. Friday’s action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m., while Saturday’s twinbill is set to start at noon. |
