MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Amanda Stevens, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, was recently
selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association
Player of the Week for her performance during the week of August
30-September 5.
Stevens, a 6-foot junior outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 4-1 record for the week that included a 4-0 mark as MVNU won the Houghton (N.Y.) College Invitational. In 17 games, the former Centerburg High School star averaged 3.88 kills and 3.82 digs as she reached double figures in both categories in all five matches during the week. She was also named to the Houghton Invitational All-Tournament Team. Stevens began the week with 12 kills and 14 digs in a four-game loss at Ashland University, an unbeaten NCAA Division II school. Then, she posted 11 kills and 13 digs as the Lady Cougars swept Houghton. She added 13 kills and 11 digs in a straight-game win over Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College, and she tallied 17 kills and 15 digs in a victory over Notre Dame College. She closed out the week with 13 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Baptist Bible (Pa.) College. For the season, Stevens leads MVNU with 150 kills and 149 digs. She has also recorded 26 total blocks and 18 aces. She needs just 92 more kills to become the 17th player in school history to reach the 1,000-kill mark for her career. The Lady Cougars are currently 8-3 overall. MVNU will return to action on Saturday with a tri-match at Otterbein College. The team will face Muskingum College at 1:00 p.m. and host Otterbein at 3:00 p.m.
