Four MVNU Players Receive NCCAA East Region Honors

 MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team was announced.

Amanda Stevens, a junior outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, highlighted the NCCAA East Region Team as she was selected as the Player of the Year. The former Centerburg High School star leads the Lady Cougars with 436 kills and 489 digs. Stevens has also compiled 20 assists, 42 aces, and 79 total blocks.

Jenny Weaver, a junior middle hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, joined Stevens on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Central Christian High School standout has posted 164 total blocks, 306 kills, 302 digs, 23 aces, and 12 assists for MVNU this year.

Allison Klusmann, a freshman setter from Tallmadge, Ohio, rounded out the eight-player NCCAA East Region Team as the only freshman on the list. The former Tallmadge High School star has handed out a team-high 1,319 assists this year for the Lady Cougars and has also compiled 64 kills, 62 blocks, 19 aces, and 277 digs.

Shena Beheler, a freshman middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention pick. The former Fredericktown High School standout leads MVNU with 166 total blocks and 47 aces to go with 377 kills, 159 digs, and 18 assists.

Photo of Coach Paul SwansonHead coach Paul Swanson was also selected as the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Cougars to the NCCAA East Region title and earning the program’s fourteenth straight trip to the NCCAA National Tournament. MVNU is currently 24-10 overall and 8-4 in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Tuesday when the team will travel to Ohio Dominican University for an AMC South Division match at 7:00 p.m.
