MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Amanda Stevens, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s volleyball team, has been selected
as the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of
the Week for her performance during the week of September
27-October 3.
Stevens, a six-foot junior outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-1 record for the week as she averaged 4.46 kills, 3.77 digs, and 0.38 blocks per game. The former Centerburg High School standout tied her career high with 21 kills in an upset win at then 18th-ranked Walsh University that snapped the Lady Cavaliers’ 38-match American Mideast Conference South Division winning streak. Stevens added 12 kills and eight digs as MVNU swept Shawnee State University, and she tallied seven kills and nine digs in a sweep of the University of Rio Grande. She closed out the week with 18 kills and 13 digs as the Lady Cougars fell at then 14th-ranked Cedarville University. On the season, Stevens leads MVNU in kills (397), kills per game (3.78), digs (431), and digs per game (4.10). She has also recorded 37 aces and 66 total blocks. For her career, she has climbed to 12th place in school history with 1,155 career kills and seventh place with 1,503 career digs. The Lady Cougars are currently 21-9 overall and 6-3 in the AMC South Division. MVNU is also ranked 24th in the latest NAIA national poll. The team will return to action on Tuesday when they will travel to Urbana University for another AMC South Division match at 7:00 p.m.
