NewsMVNU Goalkeepers Earn Defender of the Week Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Krysti Wilson and Jordan Knight, the goalkeepers for the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s and men’s soccer teams respectively, swept the American Mideast Conference Defender of the Week honors for their performances during the week of October 10-16.
Wilson, a sophomore from Sunbury, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as MVNU remained unbeaten in the AMC South Division. In a 2-0 victory at Urbana University, the former Big Walnut High School standout made five saves in posting the team’s fourth shutout of the season. Then, in a 3-2 overtime win at Tiffin University, Wilson stopped seven shots to preserve the victory. For the season, Wilson has allowed 19 goals in 15 matches for a 1.36 goals against average. She has recorded 86 saves and posted three shutouts. MVNU has won 10 straight matches to improve to 13-3-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the AMC South Division. Knight, a sophomore from Kentwood, Michigan, guided the Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as he posted a pair of shutouts. The former East Kentwood High School star stopped seven shots in a 2-0 victory at Malone College. Then, in a 3-0 win over Seton Hill (Pa.) University, Knight tallied six saves. On the year, Knight has allowed 21 goals in 16 matches with six shutouts and a 1.31 goals against average. He has also recorded 74 saves. MVNU is currently 8-5-3 overall and 1-1-3 in the AMC South Division.
