Van Pelt, a sophomore forward from Maryville, Tennessee, was selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week after scoring the Cougars’ only goal in a 1-1 double overtime tie with top-ranked and defending NAIA national champion University of Rio Grande. It was the first conference goal allowed by the Redmen this season and only the sixth goal overall.

Van Pelt leads MVNU with 12 goals, seven assists, and 31 total points. The former William Blount High School star began the week ranked third in the AMC in goals per match (.85), fifth in assists per match (.54), and second in points per match (2.23).

Knight, a sophomore goalkeeper from Kentwood, Michigan, was named the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week after allowing just the one goal to Rio Grande in 110 minutes in goal. He posted eight saves in the match as the Cougars were out-shot 25-3 by Rio Grande. He also assisted on Van Pelt’s goal as his long punt set up the play.

For the season, Knight has started all 15 matches in goal for MVNU and has allowed just 19 goals for a 1.26 goals against average. The former East Kentwood High School standout has registered 69 saves and posted six shutouts.

The Cougars are currently 8-4-3 overall and 1-0-3 in the AMC South Division. MVNU will return to action on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when the team will host Ohio Dominican University in an important AMC South Division match.
