MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Catherine Hess, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s soccer team, has received numerous
honors for her performance in matches played during the week of
October 3-9.
Hess, a senior forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, was selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week for the second straight week, and she was also chosen as the National Christian College Athletic Association and NAIA National Player of the Week as she led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as she had a hand in all six of the team’s goals. Hess began the week with two goals and two assists in MVNU’s 4-1 victory over Cedarville University as the Lady Cougars rallied from an early 1-0 deficit. In a 2-1 win over Walsh University, the former Hillsboro High School standout also scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick with 3:32 left in the match to go along with an assist earlier in the match on the tying goal. Hess, who leads MVNU with 18 goals and 10 assists on the season, has now recorded at least one point in a school-record 16 straight matches dating back to last season. She has also become the program’s all-time leader in goals scored (61), assists (45), and points (157). The Lady Cougars are currently 10-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the AMC South Division. MVNU will put its seven-match winning streak on the line on Wednesday when the team travels to Urbana University for an AMC South Division match that will begin at 4:00 p.m.
