MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Catherine Hess, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s soccer team, has been selected as
the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the
Week for her performance during the week of September 26-October
2.
Hess, a senior forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as she had a hand in five of the team’s six goals during the week. In a 4-2 non-conference win at Union (Ky.) College, the former Hillsboro High School star scored two goals and added one assist. Then, in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Milligan (Tenn.) College, Hess scored one goal and tallied an assist. The goal against Milligan moved her into a tie for first place on the Lady Cougars’ career goals scored list with 58. Hess, who leads MVNU with 17 goals and nine assists on the season, now holds the program records for career goals (60), career assists (44), and career points (164). She has also scored at least one point in a school-record 15 straight matches dating back to last season. The Lady Cougars are currently 9-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in AMC South Division play. MVNU will host Walsh University (9-4-0, 2-1-0 AMC South) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in an important AMC South Division match.
