NewsMVNU Lands Two on CoSIDA Academic All-District Teamwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Sarah Helbert and Allison Linak, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team, were both recently selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division Second Team.
Helbert, a senior defender from Avon Lake, Ohio, has started 15 of the team’s 19 matches this season and registered two assists. The former Avon Lake High School standout has also helped the Lady Cougars’ defense post eight shutouts and allow just 22 goals in 19 matches. An Early Childhood Education major with a 3.968 grade point average, Helbert has been named to the MVNU Dean’s List all six semesters. Linak, a sophomore midfielder from Westerville, Ohio, has started all 19 matches for the Lady Cougars and leads the team in minutes played (1,596). The former Worthington Christian High School star has recorded six goals and seven assists for 19 total points. A Middle Childhood Education major with a 3.970, Linak has been named to the MVNU Dean’s List both semesters. The Lady Cougars are currently 16-3-0 overall and ranked 23rd in the most recent NAIA national poll. MVNU will take on Tiffin University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the NAIA Region IX Tournament semifinals at Houghton (N.Y.) College. The winner of that match will face the winner of the match between Houghton and Malone College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Academic All-District IV College Division Teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Eligible student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year. The District IV College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
