NewsLady Cougars Earn NCCAA East Region Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team was well represented when the American Mideast Conference South Division awards were announced on Monday.
Catherine Hess, a senior forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, highlighted the AMC South Division First Team as she was selected as the AMC South Division Player of the Year. The former Hillsboro High School star led the Lady Cougars with 24 goals and a school-record 17 assists, and she finished her career as MVNU’s all-time leader in goals (67), assists (52), and points (186). Krysti Wilson, a sophomore goalkeeper from Sunbury, Ohio, joined Hess on the AMC South Division First Team as the only goalkeeper selected. The former Big Walnut High School standout posted seven shutouts and a 1.25 goals against average to go along with a school-record 147 saves. Allison Linak, a sophomore midfielder from Westerville, Ohio, was also named to the AMC South Division First Team as the top midfielder chosen. The former Worthington Christian High School star recorded six goals and 10 assists and logged the second most minutes on the team. Leanna Goss, a junior defender from Westerville, Ohio, rounded out the MVNU players on the AMC South Division First Team. The former Westerville South High School product anchored the Lady Cougars’ back line that posted 10 shutouts and allowed just 30 goals in 24 matches on the year. Kristy Brandolini, a freshman forward from Twinsburg, Ohio, was the first forward selected to the AMC South Division Second Team. The former Twinsburg High School star was also named the AMC South Division Freshman of the Year after compiling 20 goals and 14 assists in her first collegiate season. Samantha Tomlinson, a freshman defender from Tipp City, Ohio, was also selected to the AMC South Division Second Team. The former Tippecanoe High School standout started all 24 matches for MVNU and recorded four assists in addition to her stellar play on the back line.
Head coach Jonathan Meade was also selected as the AMC South Division Coach of the Year for the third straight year as the Lady Cougars repeated as the AMC South Division champs with a perfect 7-0-0 record. MVNU finished the season with a 19-5-0 overall mark.
