MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Stephanie Johnson, a member of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, was
recently selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA
Region IX Player of the Week for the second time this season as
she was honored for her performances during the week of April
25-May 1.
Johnson, a junior shortstop from Tallmadge, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 4-0 record for the week as she batted .615 and drove in eight runs. In a doubleheader sweep of Malone College, the former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy star went 3-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored as MVNU won 4-3 and 9-1. Then, she went 5-for-7 with five RBI and three runs scored in a sweep at St. Vincent (Pa.) College as she homered in both games. Johnson finished the 2005 season with a .456 batting average (52-for-114) as she compiled 12 doubles, nine triples, two home runs, 30 runs scored, 34 RBI, and seven stolen bases. She had a .772 slugging percentage and a .488 on-base percentage. The Lady Cougars finished the year with a 17-18 overall record as MVNU went 5-9 in the AMC South Division.
