Dyer, a native of Concord, North Carolina, has decided to further his education and continue his golf career at MVNU. The four-time All-Conference selection and two-time Conference Most Valuable Player was a four-time participant in the state tournament. The First Assembly Christian School product finished 21st in the state as a freshman, twelfth as a sophomore, tenth as a junior, and fourth as a senior as he earned All-State honors in 2005. A two-handicap golfer, Dyer holds every golf record in school history. The low round of his career came at Kannapolis Country Club when he fired a 64.

"I am very excited about Jon being a part of our program next year,” said MVNU head coach Chris Huff. "He is an exceptional golfer who has achieved many goals as a high school golfer. He is also a good Christian young man who will represent Mount Vernon Nazarene University in a positive way.”

"Jon is a hard worker who wants to achieve great things in his future with the game of golf,” Huff added. "It will be exciting to see how much of an impact he will make on our program in the next four years. He has a leadership quality that will help our team reach many goals. We are blessed to have such a great individual join our program.”

In addition to playing high school golf, Dyer also participated in numerous amateur tournaments. He was the Kannapolis Country Club junior champion (1996-2003) and finished eleventh at the Carolinas Amateur Championship Qualifier in 2004. He also participated in the U.S. Amateur in August of 2004.

"There are several reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Dyer of his college choice. "The opportunity to continue playing golf on the college level at a school that offers the academic, spiritual, and social environment that I desire was the main reason.”

MVNU finished the 2004-2005 season with a 44-54 overall record with a roster that consisted of just one senior and no juniors. The Cougars also finished sixth at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament.
