Schlabach, a native of Sugarcreek, Ohio, has decided to further his education and continue his golf career at MVNU. A three-time Inter Valley Conference and Eastern District First Team selection at Garaway High School, Schlabach captured the Ohio Division III state championship as a senior. He was also a part of Garaway’s four straight IVC titles during his four high school seasons.

"Jared is a super individual who will be a great addition to our team,” said MVNU head coach Chris Huff. "He has a great work ethic on the golf course and in the classroom. We are blessed to have him as a part of our team. Jared has a wonderful background in golf - competition that will help him as a Cougar. I believe he is the first person to play in our program after winning a state championship in golf.”

"I am so excited to see how much Jared will help our program in the future,” Huff added. "This is the kind of player and person that every college is looking for to be a part of their program. With Jared’s help, we should be back (competing) at the national level soon.”

In addition to playing high school golf, Schlabach has posted four junior tour victories. He is also active in his church youth group.

"There are several reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Schlabach, whose brother, Jeremy, will be a junior on the Cougar golf team in the fall. "I like the Christian background and the school has the major (biology) that I want to pursue. I also wanted to continue my golf career at the college level.”

MVNU finished the 2004-2005 season with a 44-54 overall record with a roster that consisted of just one senior and no juniors. The Cougars also finished sixth at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament.
