MVNU's Hall Earns Player of the Week Awards

Photo of Benji Hall MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Benji Hall, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team, has been selected as both the American Mideast Conference and the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for his performance in games played from February 13-19.

Hall, a 6-foot-2 senior wing from Mansfield, Ohio, averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as he led the Cougars to a 2-0 record for the week. The former Ontario High School standout shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-for-27), 62.5 percent from three-point range (10-for-16), and 75.0 percent from the free throw line (9-for-12).

Hall began the week with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists in a 94-82 win at Malone College as MVNU reached the 20-win mark for the eighth time in the past nine seasons. The team’s lone senior added 27 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high four blocked shots in a 99-86 victory at Urbana University. In that game, Hall also set a new career high by going 6-for-9 from three-point range.

On the season, Hall is averaging 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He is second on the team in assists (73) and blocked shots (19), and he is also second in three-pointers made (45) while shooting 38.1 percent from outside the arc.

MVNU has posted a 21-10 overall record following a loss to Geneva (Pa.) College in the first round of the AMC Tournament on Tuesday night. The Cougars finished third in the AMC South Division with an 11-7 mark, and the team received votes in the final NAIA Division II national poll.
