Six MVNU Media Guides Recognized as Among the NAIA's Best

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Sports Information Department was recently recognized by both the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the NAIA-Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA) as six of MVNU’s media guides from the 2003-2004 school year were honored as being among the best in the nation at the annual CoSIDA Workshop in Calgary.

For the second straight year, MVNU had one of its media guides selected by CoSIDA as having the best cover in its category. The Cougars’ men’s soccer media guide was chosen out of all the men’s soccer media guides from NCAA Division II and III, NAIA, and junior college schools. The cover of the media guide was designed by Carlos M. Serrao, MVNU’s webmaster, in conjunction with Dave Parsons, MVNU’s sports information director.

In the NAIA-SIDA media guide contests, six of MVNU’s eight media guides earned a spot in their respective sports’ top ten. Both the women’s soccer and women’s volleyball media guides finished fourth in their respective categories, while the men’s soccer media guide finished fifth. Women’s basketball (eighth), men’s golf (ninth), and baseball (tenth) were also recognized.

"I was very pleased with the way that our publications fared in these contests,” said Parsons, who is responsible for overseeing the production of all eight of the institution’s media guides. "We continue to strive to produce top quality media guides that will highlight the success of our athletic programs.”

"I am very thankful for the creative help that Carlos (Serrao) and Carrie Crouch (MVNU’s Director of Communications) provide me with their work,” Parsons added. "Their talents and design expertise have helped to take the covers of our media guides to a much higher level.”

In addition to Parsons overseeing the production of all eight media guides, Steve Gregory, MVNU’s women’s basketball coach and assistant sports information director, was responsible for a majority of the work on the women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and men’s golf media guides. Serrao handled the cover designs for all four men’s sports (soccer, basketball, baseball, and golf), while Crouch designed the covers for the four women’s sports (volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball).
