NewsLady Cougars Sign Another Soccer Recruitwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s soccer team has added another key recruit to its roster for the 2005 season with the addition of Raquel Crocker, who has decided to further her education and continue her soccer career at MVNU. Crocker, a midfielder/defender from Busingen, Germany, was an All-Conference selection as a junior at Chapelgate Christian Academy. In addition to playing soccer, she was also a member of the varsity basketball team as a sophomore and a member of the varsity lacrosse team as a sophomore and junior. "The team and I are very excited about Raquel’s commitment to MVNU,” said MVNU head coach Jonathan Meade. "She is a strong player who will give us more height in the middle of the field. She has played at a high level of club soccer in Maryland, and I am sure she will come in and immediately compete for playing time.” "Raquel has a great personality and was an instant hit with the team,” Meade added. "I know that MVNU will be a wonderful opportunity for her to grow academically, athletically, and spiritually.” In addition to playing sports, Crocker was an honor roll student each year and was an honor roll athlete as a freshman and sophomore. "There are several reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Crocker of her college choice. "I really enjoyed the campus and Christian atmosphere when I visited. I also wanted to play soccer for a coach and team that embodied that same spirit. The girls on the team are very close and I really like Coach Meade’s coaching style as well.” MVNU, which is an NAIA school located in Mount Vernon, Ohio, finished the 2004 season with a 19-5-0 overall record that included a runner-up finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament. The Lady Cougars also went 7-0-0 in the American Mideast Conference South Division to capture their second straight conference title, and the team was ranked 23rd in the final NAIA national poll.
