MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jake Poole, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the Week
for his performance during the week
of March 28-April 3.
Poole, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Wadsworth, Ohio, had a hand in both of MVNU’s victories during the week as the Cougars went 2-1. The former Wadsworth High School standout tossed two perfect innings of relief with one strikeout in a 7-6 non-conference win at Ohio Wesleyan University, who was 12-4 at the time, as he notched his first career win. Then, he tossed two scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit with one strikeout to preserve a 6-5 victory over Tiffin University in AMC South Division action as he recorded his first career save. On the season, Poole has appeared in six games with a 1-1 record, one save, and a 3.12 ERA. In 8 2/3 innings of work, he has struck out 10 batters and issued just three walks. MVNU is currently 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the AMC South Division. The Cougars are scheduled to return to action on Thursday when the team will travel to Ohio Dominican University for an AMC South Division doubleheader that will begin at 1:00 p.m. The Panthers are currently 24-9 overall and are in first place in the AMC South Division with a 9-0 mark.
