NewsMVNU's Laughlin Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mike Laughlin, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team, was recently selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the week of April 11-17.
Laughlin, a sophomore from Mogadore, Ohio, posted a 2-0 record on the mound for the week and did not allow an earned run in 12 innings of work. He struck out 12 batters and issued five walks as the Cougars went 7-1 for the week.
The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy standout began the week by allowing just four hits, three walks, and two unearned runs over seven innings with six strikeouts in a 5-2 victory over Urbana University. Then, the right-hander tossed the 13th no-hitter in school history as he blanked Cedarville University 15-0 and gave up just two walks over five innings with six strikeouts as he notched his fifth career shutout.
For the season, Laughlin has posted a 3-2 record with a team-leading 1.36 ERA. In 33 innings of work, he has struck out 35 batters and opponents are hitting just .162 against him.
MVNU is currently 16-12 overall on the season and 10-6 in the AMC South Division. The Cougars are scheduled to play doubleheaders at Shawnee State University on both Friday and Saturday this weekend with Friday’s action slated to get under way at 1:00 p.m.
