NewsThree MVNU Basketball Players Earn All-American Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team and one member of the MVNU women’s basketball team were recently honored when the NAIA Division II and National Christian College Athletic Association All-American teams were announced.
Highlighting the selections was the Cougars’ sophomore post Mark Hess, who was chosen as both an NAIA Division II Honorable Mention All-American and an NCCAA Second Team All-American. Hess, a 6-foot-6 native of Ashland, Ohio, led MVNU in scoring (17.9 points per game), rebounding (7.8 rebounds per game), and field goal percentage (54.8 percent). The former Ashland High School standout also registered 60 assists, 16 blocked shots, and 27 steals. Andrew Thompson, a 6-foot junior guard from Mount Vernon, Ohio, was selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Mount Vernon High School star averaged 14.6 points per game and led the Cougars with 94 three-pointers made while shooting a team-best 38.8 percent from beyond the arc (94-for-242). Thompson also compiled 68 assists and 15 steals. Amy Sebastian, a 5-foot-9 freshman wing from Harrison, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American Team. The former standout at Landmark Christian Academy led the Lady Cougars in scoring (13.5 points per game) and steals (60), and she also averaged 4.8 rebounds per game to go with 61 assists.
