NewsLady Cougars Sweep AMC Soccer Weekly Awardswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Kristen Votapek and Krysti Wilson, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team, swept the American Mideast Conference weekly honors for the week of August 31-September 6.
Votapek, a sophomore forward from Amelia, Ohio, was named the AMC Offensive Player of the Week and the NAIA Region IX Player of the Week for her part in the Lady Cougars' 2-0-0 record for the week. The former Amelia High School star scored two goals in the team's 6-0 win over Oberlin College. Then, she closed out the week with the only goal in a 1-0 win over Trinity International (Ill.) University. For the season, Votapek leads MVNU with nine goals and 20 total points. She has also registered two assists and is now just two goals away from the Lady Cougars' career scoring mark of 37 goals. Wilson, a freshman goalkeeper from Sunbury, Ohio, was named the AMC Defensive Player of the Week. The former Big Walnut High School standout recorded nine saves between the two games in posting two shutouts. In four matches this season, Wilson has yet to allow a goal with four shutouts to her credit. MVNU (4-0-0) will return to action on Friday when the team will host the Spahr and Glenn Cougar Classic. The Lady Cougars will take on Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University at 4:00 p.m. in the first round. Then, MVNU will square off with Siena Heights (Mich.) University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
