MVNU's Warren Named AMC Soccer Defender of the Weekwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Ricky Warren, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University men's soccer team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference Defender of the Week for his
performance during the week of August 31-September 6.
Warren, a senior defender from Kingston, Jamaica, led the Cougars to a pair of victories as the team won the First-Knox Cougar Invitational. The former Meadowbrook High School standout helped MVNU post a 6-0 shutout over Moody Bible (Ill.) Institute in the first round as the defense allowed just one shot on goal. Then, in the championship match against previously unbeaten Nyack (N.Y.) College, Warren helped limit the potent Purple Pride attack to just four shots on goal as the Cougars prevailed 3-1. He also had the assist on the game-winning goal.
For the season, the Cougars are now 3-1-0 overall. The team will return to action on Tuesday when MVNU will host Knox County rival Kenyon College at 4:00 p.m.
