MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Kristen Votapek, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week
for the second time this year.
Votapek, a sophomore forward from Amelia, Ohio, was honored this time for the week of September 21-27 as she led the Lady Cougars to a pair of victories. The former Amelia High School star scored one goal in a 2-1 victory at Geneva (Pa.) College and then capped off the week with two goals in a 3-0 win over Cumberland (Ky.) College. On the season, Votapek leads MVNU with 17 goals as she has scored at least one goal in nine of the team's 10 matches. She has also became the program's all-time leader in goals scored with 43 in less than two full seasons. The Lady Cougars are currently 10-0-0 and moved up to 26th in the latest NAIA poll - their highest ranking ever. MVNU will return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when the team travels to North Canton to take on Walsh University in an important American Mideast Conference South Division match.
