NewsMVNU's Hinds Named NCCAA Soccer Player of the Weekwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jeffery Hinds, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University men's soccer team, was recently named the
National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week
for his efforts during the week of September 1-7.
Hinds, a sophomore forward from Kingston, Jamaica, led the Cougars to a 2-0-0 record for the week as MVNU won the First-Knox Cougar Invitational. In a 6-0 victory over Moody Bible (Ill.) Institute in the first round, Hinds scored two goals and added an assist. Then, in a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Nyack (N.Y.) College in the championship match, he put the Cougars on the scoreboard when his free kick was accidentally headed into the goal by a Nyack defender. For his performance over the two days, Hinds was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. For the season, Hinds is second on the team with three goals. He has also registered one assist for seven total points. MVNU is currently 4-1-0 overall. The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday when the team will travel to Wittenberg University for a non-conference match that will kick off at noon.
