MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Catherine Hess, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, has been selected as the
National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week
for her efforts during the week of August 25-31.
Hess, a junior forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0 record as the team kicked off the 2003 season by winning the Nyack (N.Y.) College Kick-off Classic. In the team's opening match against Medgar Evers (N.Y.) College, Hess recorded her first career hat trick with three goals and two assists in a 13-0 romp. Then, in a 7-0 win over the host Purple Pride, Hess added two goals and two assists. For her efforts, the former Hillsboro High School standout was named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player. On the season, Hess has scored six goals and leads the team with four assists for 16 total points to help MVNU to a 4-0 record to start the year. The Lady Cougars will return to action next Friday when they will host the Cougar Classic Invitational. MVNU will face Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University in the first round at 4:00 p.m.
