NewsMVNU Volleyball Players Sweep Weekly Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Amanda Stevens and Katey Percival, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, were selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player and Setter of the Week respectively for their efforts during the week of October 5-11.
Stevens, a 6-foot sophomore middle hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0 record for the week as she averaged 5.67 kills and 6.33 digs per game. In a sweep at Ohio Dominican University, the former All-Ohioan at Centerburg High School tallied 17 kills and 20 digs. Then, she closed out the week with 17 kills and 18 digs in a win at Shawnee State University. On the season, Stevens leads MVNU and ranks sixth in the AMC with a 3.63 kills per game average. She also ranks twelfth in the AMC with a .310 attack percentage. In addition, she has compiled 57 blocks, 22 aces, and a team-leading 295 digs. Percival, a 5-foot-9 junior setter from Elyria, Ohio, earned the AMC and NAIA Region IX Setter of the Week honors for the third time this season after averaging 15.00 assists and 3.33 digs in the Lady Cougars' two wins. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School began the week with 39 assists and nine digs in the victory at Ohio Dominican and then closed out the week with 51 assists and 11 digs in the win at Shawnee State. For the year, Percival ranks second in the AMC in assists per game (12.01) as she has compiled 1,045 assists on the year. She has also recorded 75 kills, 49 blocks, 227 digs, and a team-high 37 aces. MVNU is currently 23-5 overall and 6-3 in the AMC South Division. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Thursday when the team will host Malone College at 5:00 p.m. and Geneva (Pa.) College at 7:00 p.m. in National Christian College Athletic Association East Region matches.
