NewsLady Cougars Receive NCCAA East Region Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team along with their head coach were honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region awards were announced.
Katey Percival, a junior setter from Elyria, Ohio, was named the NCCAA East Region Player of the Year. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School has handed out 1,161 assists so far this year and leads MVNU with 40 aces. Percival has also compiled 78 kills, 50 blocks, and 252 digs. Carrie Mason, a senior middle hitter from Fredericktown, Ohio, joined Percival on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School has recorded 283 kills, 70 blocks, 43 assists, 33 aces, and 151 digs. Jenny Weaver, a sophomore middle hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Central Christian High School has tallied 187 kills, 111 blocks, 20 aces, and 130 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof, a senior libero from Waldo, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention pick. The former standout at River Valley High School leads the Lady Cougars with 322 digs and has a .937 serve reception percentage. Vanderhoof has also posted 34 kills and 13 aces.
MVNU, which is currently 25-5 overall and 7-3 in the American Mideast Conference South Division, will return to action on Tuesday when the Lady Cougars will travel to Walsh University to face the 14th-ranked Lady Cavaliers in a conference match at 7:00 p.m.
