MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Carrie Mason, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's volleyball team, has been selected as
the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the
Week for her performance in matches played during the week of
October 12-18.
Mason, a senior middle hitter from Fredericktown, Ohio, averaged 4.33 kills, 1.78 digs, and .78 blocks per game for the week as she led the Lady Cougars to a 3-0 record. In a win at Urbana University, the former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School pounded 14 kills. She added 14 more kills in a straight-game victory over Malone College, and then closed out the week with 11 kills in a win over Geneva (Pa.) College. During the week, Mason became only the second player in school history to amass 1,500 career kills and 600 total blocks. She was also named to the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team after leading MVNU to the NCCAA East Region title for the twelfth time in 13 years. On the season, Mason has recorded 283 kills, 70 blocks, 43 assists, 33 aces, and 151 digs. She also is second on the team with a .309 attack percentage. The Lady Cougars are currently 25-6 overall and 7-4 in the AMC South Division. The team will return to action on Thursday when MVNU will travel to Tiffin University for another conference match at 7:00 p.m.
