NewsLady Cougars Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Cheryl Balogh and Kristen Votapek, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team, have been selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division First Team.
Balogh, a senior defender from Lima, Ohio, has anchored the Lady Cougars' defense that has allowed just seven goals in 19 matches while posting a school-record 13 shutouts. The former Elida High School standout has also recorded one assist. In the classroom, Balogh has compiled a 3.940 grade point average as an Exercise Studies/Sports Management double major. She was named to the All-District IV College Division Second Team as a junior. Votapek, a sophomore forward from Amelia, Ohio, has broken her own school record with 27 goals this season. The former Amelia High School star has also registered five assists, and she is the career goals scored leader with 53. In the classroom, Votapek has compiled a 3.633 grade point average as a Health/Physical Education major. She was one of only two sophomores on the 12-member All-District First Team. MVNU is currently 16-2-1 overall as the Lady Cougars head into postseason play. MVNU won its first-ever American Mideast Conference South Division title with a 6-1-0 mark, and the team will host Geneva (Pa.) College in the first round of the AMC Tournament on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Academic All-District IV College Division Teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Eligible student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year. The District IV College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Student-athletes selected to the All-District IV First Team are placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America Teams.
