NewsLady Cougars Sweep Volleyball Player of the Week Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jessica Harding and Katey Percival, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, were selected as the American Mideast Conference Player and Setter of the Week respectively for their performances during the week of November 9-15 as the Lady Cougars finished third at the AMC Tournament.
Harding, a 5-foot-11 senior outside hitter from New Philadelphia, Ohio, averaged 3.62 kills per game with a .282 attack percentage to go along with 13 blocks. The former All-Ohioan at Garaway High School recorded nine kills and seven blocks in a sweep of Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College. She added 13 kills and four blocks in a sweep of Seton Hill (Pa.) University and finished with six kills in a loss to Walsh University, ranked 15th in the NAIA national poll. She closed out the tournament with a career-high 19 kills in a win over Malone College. Percival, a 5-foot-9 junior setter from Elyria, Ohio, earned her fourth AMC Setter of the Week selection this season after averaging 10.69 assists per game with 35 digs and six blocks. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School registered 25 assists in the win over Roberts Wesleyan and 31 assists in the victory over Seton Hill. After handing out 31 assists in the loss to Walsh, she closed the week with 52 assists against Malone. MVNU is currently 35-9 overall. The Lady Cougars will travel to Daemen (N.Y.) College on Friday for the NAIA Region IX Tournament. MVNU will face the University of Michigan-Dearborn (19-32) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with the winner advancing to face host Daemen in the semifinals at noon on Saturday. The other semifinal match will feature Walsh versus Cedarville University. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament in San Diego, California.
