NewsLady Cougars Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorswritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jessica Harding and Amanda Stevens, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, have been selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV College Division First Team and Third Team respectively.
Harding, a senior outside hitter from New Philadelphia, Ohio, was named to the Academic All-District First Team for the second straight year. The former All-Ohioan at Garaway High School has compiled 364 kills, 76 blocks, and 79 digs this season. In the classroom, Harding has compiled a 3.869 grade point average as an Integrated Math Education major. Stevens, a sophomore outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, was named to the Academic All-District Third Team. The former All-Ohioan at Centerburg High School leads the team in kills per game (3.60) and digs per game (3.79). She has also recorded 70 blocks and 30 aces. In the classroom, Stevens has compiled a 3.944 grade point average as an Early Childhood Education major. She was one of only two sophomores selected among the three six-player teams. MVNU is currently 32-8 overall. The Lady Cougars will begin play in the American Mideast Conference Tournament on Friday at 1:00 p.m. when they take on Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College in the 12-team single elimination event. The Academic All-District IV College Division Teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Eligible student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year. The District IV College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Student-athletes selected to the All-District IV First Team are placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America Teams.
